A distinguished fourball visited The European Club in July of 2002 on their way to the British Open at Muirfield. Tiger Woods, David Duval, Scott McCarron and Mark O'Meara made up the fourball. Mr. Woods recorded a course record 67 on his first visit to the club.

HARRINGTON'S OPENS!

The European Club took part in a bold plan to prepare Padraig Harrington for his British Open wins in 2007 and 2008. It hosted the Irish Professional Championship in the week before the British each year with club designer/owner Pat Ruddy going to great lengths in simulating Open Championship conditions and the plan worked. Harrington won the 2007 Irish in a playoff and next weekend won the British in a playoff at Carnoustie. In 2008 Harrington won the Irish by 4-strokes and won the British by four at Birkdale the following weekend; and then went on to add the US PGA title at
Oakland Hills. This is believed to be the only time a National PGA and a course designer/owner co-operated to prepare a national hero for the majors!
